The key to remember is that you only get points for the stones you throw that end up closer to the bull’s eye than all of your opponent’s stones. (Think of petanque or bocce ball, if you’ve ever played.) So in practice, it’s rare for a good team to have more than one stone per round (“end,” in curling parlance) that actually scores.

Now, I don’t want to be to picky here, but there are a lot of things that don’t add with post… I want to point out a few.
However upon closer examination, BlogSpot fans may not be as “delusional” as some geeks may think for choosing Google over Automattic, as there are at least 5 major advantages of using Blogger instead of WordPress–both WP.com and WP.org.
First off, there is the notion that WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress are the same thing. This utterly ridiculous, and BS should be called on it. There are a multitude of differences between the two platforms, and comparing them should’t be started.
If image hosting wasn’t bad enough, the video options alone will make one weep when you consider that WordPress charges users $60/year to use VideoPress–a fee that does not include any extra space.
Here is the one thing to consider when using VideoPress. VideoPress is more then a place to stick your video file, and stream it. With Bloggers video player, you are getting a video that is highly compressed, and just plain ugly. While this more then the (non-existing) option for WordPress.com users, VideoPress offers a solution like you would find with a Vimeo Pro account. That being a rich media experience, with excellent video quality. For video producers, well worth $60 a year. For the parent that is just dumping clips off of there point and shoot and wanting to share them with family, Blogger does a great job. For someone wanting more out of the video experience, VideoPress is a great option.
Despite Blogger’s popularity, WordPress (to my knowledge) still has more custom themes than its Google rival. However a new trend that I am noticing is that many premium WordPress themes are available for FREE (or very cheap) on Blogger.
Now, I did a count here for the default themes that both Blogger and WordPress.com offers.
While Blogger does have the option to modify themes for free, WordPress is going to charge you $10 a year. And the option is really only to edit CSS. When you are looking to customize the theme, it is best to move to a self-hosted solution.
What I am surprised to see is people moving WordPress themes to Blogger. The letter, and spirit of the GPL allows anyone to do that, but something like this seems backwards… Like a guy that would build a Mustang out of a Lamborghini…
This last point is probably debatable, but lets just face the facts: Google has one of the most secure platforms in the world.
Only because it needs to be said… Security is largely up to you as the user. To my knowledge, while there have been some issues on self-hosted WordPress, WordPress.com has never had any major security breach or threat.
Fingers crossed.

In “Life, below 600px,” Paddy Donnelly talks about “giving the fold the finger” (i.e. making visitors scroll isn’t really THAT bad) and uses the 37signals home page to support the cause. “What I’m proposing is for you to think twice about these ‘rules’ which are preached so often around the web and aim to create something original.”
